Sober Dance Party
When people think about social impact, they often imagine large-scale programs, policies, or institutions.
But sometimes change begins with something much simpler:
It can be a room, a conversation, a gathering of strangers.
As the founder of NovaNest, I have been exploring a question that feels increasingly important in Nepal:
How do we create spaces where people can reconnect with themselves and each other in meaningful ways?
In recent months, NovaNest has collaborated with individuals and organizations that are introducing new conversations around wellbeing, mindfulness, creativity, emotional health, and conscious living.
One example was our recent collaboration with Joy Riot, a sober dance initiative in Kathmandu.
At first glance, it might seem like just another event. But what stood out to me was the intention behind it
- People gathered without alcohol.
- Strangers showed up alone.
- Many arrived feeling uncertain or self-conscious.
Yet through movement, music, and shared experience, they gradually became more open, present, and connected. As a somatic movement facilitator, I witnessed something powerful:
People don't always need more information. Sometimes they need experiences that help them feel safe enough to be themselves.
In Nepal, conversations around mental wellbeing, emotional awareness, and self-development are growing, but there is still much work to be done. This is why collaboration matters.
When small businesses, community leaders, artists, facilitators, and entrepreneurs come together, they create opportunities for people to experience new ways of relating—to themselves, to others, and to their communities.
NovaNest's mission is not only to organize retreats or events. It is to support and collaborate with initiatives that encourage greater awareness, meaningful connection, and personal growth.
Every conscious business we support, every gathering we help facilitate, and every person who leaves feeling a little more connected contributes to a larger cultural shift.
