Her Tears, Our Shame: The Next Turn could be Ours

Her Tears, Our Shame is a storytelling and awareness campaign dedicated to amplifying the voices of women whose lives were shattered by violence, injustice, and patriarchy. It shines a light on the stories of women who were murdered in the name of "honor," attacked with acid, forced into marriage, subjected to child abuse, denied education or employment, or punished simply for choosing love or making decisions about their own lives.

While the campaign highlights atrocities against women across South Asia, with a particular focus on Pakistan, its message is universal. Violence against women is not the problem of one nation, one religion, one culture, or one community. Women themselves are a global community, connected by shared struggles for dignity, equality, safety, and freedom. Every story shared through this initiative is a reminder that behind the statistics is a human life with dreams, hopes, and the right to live without fear.

This initiative also seeks to give courage to women who are silently enduring abuse. Too many women are taught to accept domestic violence as part of life, but no religion, law, or moral value justifies violence against women. Every woman has the right to live with dignity, to make decisions about her own future, and to be treated with respect. Through real stories of courage, resilience, and loss, this campaign encourages women to speak up, seek support, and believe that their voices matter.

Our ultimate goal is to replace silence with awareness, fear with courage, and indifference with action. We will publish and preserve the stories of victims and survivors, encourage meaningful conversations, and challenge harmful social norms that allow violence to continue. We hope these stories will inspire communities, educators, journalists, policymakers, and advocates to become part of the solution rather than silent witnesses.

Real change begins with individual acts of courage. When one woman finds the strength to say "no" to violence, she inspires another. When thousands of women stand together, they become an unstoppable force for justice. Every woman's courage may seem small on its own, but together those voices can transform families, communities, and societies. This initiative is more than a campaign—it is a growing movement that declares that no woman should suffer in silence, no victim should be forgotten, and no injustice should be accepted as normal.

The first story in this series tells the story of Qandeel Baloch, the daughter of Punjab, Pakistan. She dared to challenge oppression, question deeply rooted patriarchal norms, and live life according to her own choices. Her courage came at the ultimate cost, but her voice continues to inspire conversations about women's freedom, dignity, and the misuse of culture and religion to justify violence.

Another story follows a daughter of Sindh whose eyes seem to speak even in silence. It tells the story of a young woman walking toward a fate she never chose, knowing that death awaited her simply to keep the Head of his father high. Her silent plea echoes through every page: "Raise your voice today, because the next turn could be yours."

In this series, I will do my best to share the stories of women from every community, nation, country, region, and continent. I believe that women do not belong to any one community alone—women are a community in themselves, united by many of the same struggles, hopes, and dreams. Every woman needs the support of another woman, whether she comes from a different community, nation, region, or continent. When women stand together, their collective courage becomes a powerful force for change, proving that solidarity knows no borders.
