I Smile… But My Heart Is Tired

I Smile… But My Heart Is Tired

There are days when I smile so no one asks if I am okay.

The truth is, lately my heart has been carrying a weight that words can barely describe. Every day I wake up with hope, and every night I go to sleep with questions. Will my hard work finally be enough? Will the doors I have been knocking on ever open? When will my life begin to change?

Sometimes I feel like I am standing in the middle of a storm while everyone else is moving forward. I keep trying. I keep applying. I keep believing. But waiting is exhausting.

There are moments when I cry quietly after everyone is asleep. Not because I want to give up, but because I am tired of pretending to be strong all the time. It hurts when you pour your heart into something and hear nothing back. It hurts when your dreams are bigger than your circumstances.

Still, every morning I get up again.

Not because I have all the answers, but because somewhere deep inside me, a small voice refuses to stop believing. That voice reminds me that every seed grows in darkness before it reaches the light.

As a woman from Pakistan, I have seen how many girls are told to lower their dreams because life is difficult. I refuse to accept that. Even on the days when my own hope feels fragile, I continue teaching, encouraging, and believing that education can change lives. Perhaps that is what keeps me going—that if I stop believing, the girls who look up to me may stop believing too.

I am writing this today because social media often shows success, but rarely the silent battles behind it. Behind every achievement is someone who questioned themselves, someone who waited longer than expected, someone who almost lost hope.

If you are reading this and your heart feels heavy too, I want you to know this: your tears do not make you weak. Your waiting is not meaningless. Your story is still being written.

I do not know when my breakthrough will come. I do not know which opportunity will finally change my life. But I know this: I will keep praying. I will keep working. I will keep believing.

Maybe one day I will read these words again from a place I once only dreamed of. Maybe I will remember these sleepless nights and realize they were preparing me for something greater than I could imagine.

Until that day comes, I choose faith over fear, hope over despair, and courage over giving up.

Because even when my heart is tired, I still believe that miracles find the people who refuse to stop walking toward them.
