Our environment: Women's health

My walking time in my community

I am Oluyemisi

The greatest gift to give a woman and her future generation is a healthy environment.

I learnt a lesson from my village growing up that it's important to live in a healthy environment where there is cleaner air ,safe water, green spaces, social connections, healthy local food systems ,physical activities, evening games and cultural activities. Women remain active, independent and engaged in the communities well into older age .

But nowadays, women spend more time in polluted environments.

I am not saying we should all live in the village ,I think we can learn healthy lifestyle with healthy evidence from villagers .

Researchers reveal that exposure to smoke from cooking fuels and poor air quality increases risk for chronic respiratory diseases, high blood pressure, heart disease, pregnancy complications and reduced quality of life in older age. This is why healthy environment is important to women because when environment is healthy ,women thrive ;healthy women ,healthy children, healthy family, healthy nation ,healthy world .

Reduction of pollution for a clean environment is very important. Women's health is lifelong and it begins long before old age .

A Girl’s environment affects her growth,

A young woman’s environment affects her reproductive health,

A mother's environment affects her pregnancy and child's development,

And an older woman’s environment affects how well she ages .

Imagine what could happen if every woman intentionally created healthier environments, imagine neighborhoods with green environment, imagine communities where children play in clean surroundings and older women remain active and healthy .It's a Women's strategy because change begins with us .

Women !!! Our environment is not just where we live. It becomes part of our health story .
