The Gap I Couldn’t Ignore: Building the Space I Once Needed

Creating spaces for young people to learn, grow, and discover their potentia

There are moments when an observation becomes a responsibility.

But sometimes, that responsibility begins with remembering a version of yourself who needed the same support .

For me, that moment came from a combination of my own journey and my experiences working with young people.

Because I was once that young person too.

I remember being a student with dreams and ambitions, but also experiencing a season where I felt lost and confused.

I had questions about my direction.

I was trying to understand who I was becoming, what I was capable of, and how I wanted to contribute to the world around me.

I had the desire to succeed, but I did not always have the guidance, clarity, or support to navigate that journey.

Looking back, I realise that what I needed was not just more information.

I needed spaces that helped me understand myself.

Spaces that encouraged reflection.

Spaces that helped me build confidence, discover my purpose, and recognise the potential I already carried.

As I continued working with young people, I began noticing a similar pattern.

Many young people are talented, intelligent, and full of potential.

They have dreams.

They have ambitions.

They are willing to learn and grow.

Yet, many are still searching for something deeper:

  1. Clarity about who they are.
  2. Confidence in their abilities.
  3. A stronger understanding of their purpose.

I realised that while we often prepare young people with knowledge and skills, we do not always create enough spaces for them to develop the inner foundation that supports those skills.

Because success is not only built on what we know.

It is also shaped by how we see ourselves, the values that guide our decisions, and the responsibility we take for the impact we want to create.

This realisation became the foundation for my initiative, Mindset Trifecta.

It was created from a belief that before we build leaders, we must build people.

We must create spaces where individuals can explore identity, strengthen their mindset, develop resilience, and understand their capacity to contribute meaningfully to society.

The goal is not just to help young people achieve more.

It is to help them become more.

Because the leaders our communities need are not only people with knowledge and opportunities.

They are people grounded in self-awareness, integrity, and purpose.

Through Mindset Trifecta, I hope to contribute to a generation of young people who are prepared not only for success, but for the responsibility that comes with creating change.

Sometimes an initiative is born because we see a problem.

But sometimes it is born because we remember what it felt like to need that support ourselves.

For me, Mindset Trifecta is about creating the spaces I once needed, so that others do not have to navigate their becoming alone.
