Why Are Women Still Not Safe in This World?

Every morning, when a woman steps out of her home, she carries more than just her dreams. She carries fearIt begins long before she understands what fear means. As a little girl, she is taught to be careful. “Don’t stay out late.” “Don’t walk alone.” “Share your location.” “Watch what you wear.” These words become a part of her everyday life.But rarely do we hear young boys being told, “Respect every girl as you would respect your own sister or mother.”

Why?A woman is capable of becoming a doctor, a teacher, a scientist, an engineer, a pilot, or even a leader of a nation. She has the strength to build families, heal communities, and change the world. Yet, despite all her abilities, she often cannot walk down a street without worrying about her safety.

The problem has never been women’s strength. The problem is a society that has failed to protect them.

Behind every news headline about harassment, violence, or discrimination is a human being whose dreams were interrupted. Some women speak up despite the risks. Others remain silent because they fear being blamed, judged, or ignored.

The question is not, “Why are women afraid?” The real question is, “Why do they have to be afraid at all?”

A safer world cannot be created by placing all the responsibility on women. Teaching girls to be careful is important, but it is not enough. We must also teach boys respect, empathy, self-control, and equality. Families, schools, communities, and governments all share the responsibility of creating an environment where every woman can live with dignity and freedom.

True progress will not be measured by how many warnings women receive, but by how safe they feel wherever they go.

The day a girl can walk home without fear, the day a woman can follow her dreams without constantly looking over her shoulder, and the day parents no longer worry every time their daughter leaves the house—that will be the day we can proudly say that the world has become a safer place.

Until then, one question will continue to echo across generations:

Why are women still not safe in this world?

And the answer is not for women alone to find. It is a responsibility that belongs to all of humanity.
