Jacob Omutuuze's Advice Ends Izuruh's Music Career

Isaac Ssegawa, better known as Izhuru, has ended his 24-year music career after advice from media personality Jacob Omutuuze and musician GNL Zamba.

Ssegawa says he has now shifted his attention to land management after years of pursuing a breakthrough in music without what he considers a commercial hit.

He started taking music seriously while in Senior Two at Kisozi High School, where he was inspired by the success of Jose Chameleone.

Ssegawa wanted to perform in both Luganda and Kiswahili and began learning Kiswahili as part of his ambition to build a music career.

His career went through several identities. He performed as Isaac Musanyusa while in a band and later adopted the name Sweet Kati after releasing a song of the same title. During his studies in land management, he was also known as Catographer

He estimates that he used about six stage names during his time in the industry.

Among the songs he recorded was Byejyeko, which his colleague Moshe once described as his hit. Ssegawa, however, says the song did not become a commercial breakthrough.

“I was in music for 24 years but a hit never came,” he says.

Omutuuze later advised him to abandon music and concentrate on his education. GNL Zamba also encouraged him to prioritise his studies, telling him he had “no chair in Lugaflow.”

Ssegawa says he had resisted similar advice from family members, but eventually decided to listen to the two industry figures.

He has since moved into land management, bringing to an end a music journey that began at school and lasted more than two decades.

His experience offers a glimpse into the difficult choices faced by artists whose ambitions survive for years without translating into commercial success.
