The House That Taught Me to Be Strong

Red roses, a reminder that even in difficult moments, there is still beauty.

There is a house

where I learned to speak softly,

not because I had nothing to say,

but because silence

was sometimes the safest language.

I learned to fold my dreams

between ordinary days—

between unfinished work,

little hands calling my name,

and nights when everyone slept

except the thoughts inside me.

I became good at smiling

when my heart was tired.

Good at saying, “I’m fine,”

before anyone could ask

what was wrong.

This house has seen me

lose pieces of myself

and quietly pick them back up.

It has seen my tears

hidden behind closed doors,

my prayers whispered at night,

and the woman I wanted to become

waiting patiently inside me.

But there are three little reasons

I keep lighting the morning.

Three reasons

I choose strength

even on the days

when strength feels impossible.

Maybe home is not always

the place that makes you feel safe.

Maybe sometimes

home is the place

where you learn to survive,

to love,

to forgive,

and one day—

to finally find yourself again.

And if someone asks me

what home means to me,

I won’t name the walls.

I’ll say—

it is everything I endured

without letting it

take away my heart.♥️

I grew up learning

that a home can have many rooms,

but not every room

holds peace.

Some walls remember laughter.

Some remember arguments.

Some have heard prayers

that no one else ever heard.

There were days

when I wanted to walk away

from everything around me,

but little voices called me back

to who I needed to be.

So I stayed.

I cooked through tiredness,

smiled through sadness,

and carried tomorrow

while still trying to survive today.

No one saw

how many times

I put myself back together

before opening the door.

I had dreams too—

quiet ones,

ones I kept folded away

because life needed me

before I could need myself.

But somewhere between

the sleepless nights

and ordinary mornings,

I discovered something:

I am not only

the woman who endured.

I am the woman

who still dreams.

Still hopes.

Still writes.

Still believes

there is a version of home

where her heart

does not have to whisper.

And maybe one day

my children will remember

not the things I couldn’t change,

but the way

I kept choosing love

even when life

wasn’t gentle with me.

Because this house

may be part of my story—

but it will never

be the whole story.
